Beaches

Big Sur Beaches are not the easiest to get to, but they are well worth the hike. Most of these beaches are not accessible by car, a highlight for the beach goers who are searching for some seclusion and relaxation.

Garrapata State Park offers some of the quietest and most unspoiled beaches that the Pacific has to offer. With no facilities, this is the perfect place to pack a lunch, bring a book, and just relax. While there will not be many people, the seals, sea otters, sea lions, and occasional whale spottings will keep you entertained.

Pfeiffer Beach and its arch rock are also located off the beaten path. Popular with divers, this beach is worth the trip for anyone looking for some exercise and excitement. This beach offers peace and quiet, with a great view to go with it!

Andrew Molera State Park's beach can only be reached by the appropriately named Beach Trail. It is a short and simple hike to get to along the edge of the Big Sur River. Andrew Molera State Park's beach has earned the reputation of the most reliable spot to surf. If hiking is your scene, there is plenty more of that as well.

The Big Sur Beaches are reached by taking Highway 1 and heading south of Carmel. The different beaches are between 35 and 15 miles away.
